New Women's Recovery Center Provides Comfort for Women Undergoing Female Surgical Procedures
Breast cancer, even when treatable, can be devastating. It may require as much or more emotional recovery time as physical. Careful attention to the patient's individual needs is crucial for a healthy recovery. Phoenix Baptist Hospital (PBH) has created a way to attend to female patients' needs with its new Women's Recovery Center.
PBH has provided state-of-the-art breast health services to women for years. Now, the hospital goes a step further to improve their patients' healing process with a dedicated Women's Recovery Center for female patients who have undergone a mastectomy, hysterectomy or other female procedure that requires an overnight stay.
The Women's Recovery Center consists of uniquely themed home-like, comfortable patient rooms: New England, Southwestern, Beach House, Tuscany, and French Country - all are furnished with very tranquil and inviting decor such as painted walls, framed artwork, and knickknacks. The hospital also provides extra space and accommodations for family members to stay overnight.
The Phoenix Baptist Breast Health Center specializes in mammography (screening and diagnostic), and minimally invasive surgical services. At PBH it is tradition to give a pink rose to each patient who walks through the doors; a small gesture to calm patient fears and ease their minds. As another special touch, patients requiring surgery are offered teddy bears to comfort them before and after their procedure. Many times patients will bring their soft companion with them to support groups post-surgery. Although these are small gestures, they do make a difference.
The nurses on the unit specialize in women's care and recovery and are very in-tuned to both the physical and emotional needs of the patient.
The original idea to create the Women's Recovery Center stemmed from a multi-disciplined team of physicians, nurses, administrators and patients sharing ideas on how to create the best patient experience given the personal circumstances.
